Title"Almondsbury House" and the Williams & Vincent Families - Chasing Our Past At HomeDate Created25th May 2021Program Chasing Our Past At HomePresenterLaura WhitmoreHostMelanie RushModeratorDeannah VeithDescriptionFor nearly 140 years, the imposing, Victorian gothic “Almondsbury House” has dominated the corner of Park and Macalister Streets on Denmark Hill. Meticulously built around 1883 from local sandstone by master craftsman George Williams, it became the focus of everyday life for his large family and for several subsequent generations.
Join Laura Whitmore as she reflects on the important role that the house played as a gathering place for the Williams and Vincent families and the contributions they made to the development of Ipswich. From George and Georgina Williams settling in Ipswich in 1888 to the builders, bricklayers, saddlers, carpenters, sculptors and masons, doctors, dentists, teachers, undertakers, sports persons and musicians, both families have left a lasting contribution not only to the City of Ipswich but more broadly across Queensland.References (online)Click here for high resolutionReference ID2021-05-25 COPAH - Almondsbury - Laura WhitmoreAsset TypeWebinar / Talk - MP4CopyrightPicture Ipswich Copyright InformationBuildings & StructuresAlmondsbury Stone HouseNorth Star HotelBrynhyfrydDougleenTo-Me-ReeColthupBusinessesF.
